چکیده

We consider the problem of monitoring the concentration and dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere using a collection of randomly scattered sensors. The sensors are capable of only indicating that the concentration has exceeded a randomly selected threshold and providing this information through a transponder-like mechanism to an airborne imaging radar. We use this information together with a standard atmospheric dispersion model to estimate the concentration as well as the time and location of the pollutant source. We use the expectation–maximization algorithm to find the maximum likelihood estimate of the quantities of interest. © 2005 Published by Elsevier Inc.

Detection and Localization of Harmful Atmospheric Releases via Support Vector Machines

Background: We present a Support Vector Machine (SVM) approach to the localization of hazardous particulate releases in an urban area using features constructed only from measurements obtained from a network of sensors. Results: We find high levels of localization accuracy when a reasonable number of noisy sensors are deployed within the environment. We also compare SVM source localization perf...

Centralized Ensemble-Based Trajectory Planning of Cooperating Sensors for Estimating Atmospheric Dispersion Processes

Optimal coordination of multiple sensors is crucial for efficient atmospheric dispersion estimation. The proposed approach adaptively provides optimized trajectories with respect to sensor cooperation and uncertainty reduction of the process estimate. To avoid the timeconsuming solution of a complex optimal control problem, estimation and vehicle control are considered separate problems linked ...

A Review on Various IOT Analytics Techniques for Air Pollution Detection in Fog Computing

Atmospheric contamination has deteriorated the health of plants and animals all over the globe. In particular, pollutants such as benzene(C6H6) has accelerated the rate of cancer among human beings. Therefore, accurate evaluation of the pollutant in the atmosphere is necessary by traffic supervision in urban areas. To reduce atmospheric contamination, an effective mobile strategy planning must ...

Development of a Moving Finite Element-Based Inverse Heat Conduction Method for Determination of Moving Surface Temperature

A moving finite element-based inverse method for determining the temperature on a moving surface is developed. The moving mesh is generated employing the transfinite mapping technique. The proposed algorithms are used in the estimation of surface temperature on a moving boundary with high velocity in the burning process of a homogenous low thermal diffusivity solid fuel. The measurements obtain...

Simultaneous estimation of heat fluxes applied to the wall of a channel with turbulent flow using inverse analysis

The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field,   two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...
